A severe Willamette Valley flood and a driver thaw hit Oregon from Independence eastward. The river rose to extreme levels washing out roads and bridges, marooning stock, washing away lines, and disrupting mail and rail traffic. McLaughlin Hop Kilns Dry State Flax at Prison Farm
State flax drying underway at C A McLaughlin hop kilns on the penitentiary farm. About 20 trusted convicts are brought daily to untie, spread, dry, and rebundle water-wet flax after a building fire. Livesley kilns were considered but high water forced the switch to the McLaughlin plant on high ground. The work will take some time to complete.

A goat rode a log down the Willamette River and was rescued Monday by Capt. A. J. Spong near Spona's Landing. The same goat mounted the log at Polk Salem bridge and again by a railroad bridge, drawing crowd and awe as the scene repeated. Capt. Spong pursued from shore, realized it was a goat, and safely landed it on shore placing it under his care.

Bill Snyder Marries Nurse at Tulare California
Dallas William C. Snyder formerly of the University of Oregon football team wed Miss Ethel Snyder of Reading Pennsylvania at Tulare California on Armistice Day November 11. Miss Snyder served as an army nurse at Camp Jackson in 1918 while Snyder, then artillery officer, recovered from pneumonia. Snyder is the son of County Treasurer and Mrs A V R Snyder of the city.

Ellen Shellenbarger 44 wife of Weston Shellenbarger and daughter of Mrs Ellen Robertson of Independence was found dead in her Portland home Wednesday afternoon by her nine year old son. Indications point to heart trouble. She spent her girlhood in Independence. Survived by husband son mother and three sisters. Funeral arrangements pending in Portland. Mrs Robertson and others traveled to Portland yesterday.
