Independence Enterprise Voting Contest Offers Big Prizes

The Independence Enterprise launches an eight week voting contest in Polk county with prizes from 20 to 350 dollars. Tragic Train Collision Kills Sheridan Teacher

A Portland to Dallas passenger train struck a carriage carrying four young people at Briedwell. Miss Alla Leighton of McMinnville was killed, Miss Eunice Lewie of Independence injured, and two male passengers, including a local teacher Ming Lewis, were among the others wounded. An inquest followed and the incident prompted public mourning and witness accounts.

Supreme Protector Visits Lodge for Salem Demonstration

Supreme Protector Geo A Ostrom visited the Fraternal Union of America lodge on Wednesday evening. He is organizing a candidate class in Salem and the Independence team will travel to the Capital City on May 28 aboard the 8 o clock boat to exemplify the decree. Twenty five candidates will receive the degree and a large delegation is expected to join the trip with Salem Lodge planning gracious entertainment.
