Death of Alexander Cooper in Washington
Alexander Cooper known as Pete Cooper, longtime Independence resident, died in Chehalis county Washington on April 24 1912. Born in Missouri in 1846 he crossed the plains in 1852 and settled near Independence, being a nephew of J R Cooper of this city.

A Wednesday meeting of about fifty men heard J Hanna and Verd Hill report on talks with Belcher of Falls City Lumber Co. about moving a saw mill to Independence. The company tentatively favored the Nelson place at North Independents with land sold at 200 per acre. Citizens pledged to support site efforts and a Thursday meeting was planned for Belcher to outline requirements.
