BR. M. Walker was elected president of the Independence Retail merchants association at the annual meeting in Hotel Beaver Tuesday. A. E. Horton became vice president, Charles G. Irving treasurer, and D. E. Pletcher secretary. The group formed a committee to study merchandise tax valuations and city differences. A telephone line project to connect Independence with Abbe Valley was discussed, led by Dr. M. J. Butler. The meeting featured plans for trunk lines and a possible link to the Independence center. Several members attended a film at the India theater, viewing Inside the Egy.

Patriarch of Henkle Family Dies in Moro
A. J. Henkle, patriarch of a 200 member clan with 400 year ancestry, died at his daughter Mrs. Andrew C. Thompson in Moro, Oregon on February 25, 1922. Funeral services were held February 28 at the Moro Methodist church. interment at Wasco cemetery beside a son. He was 93 years nine months old.

James A. Colby Dies at Home Near Orville
James A. Colby died at his home near Orville Station on Sunday March 5 at 9 a.m. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. with Dr. H. Charles Dunsmore officiating. Burial was in a private Colby ranch ground. He was nearly 84, born April 11, 1838 in Pontiac Michigan. He came west in 1860 to California and 1862 to Oregon, where he remained. Survived by three children Mrs. W. H. South Miss Ida Colby and George Colby. He had long lived on the Orville ranch and was respected in the community.
