Powell Funeral Recalls Monmouth Native’s Life
The funeral of John H. Powell, a Monmouth native and Monmouth Christian College graduate, was held at the Christian church in Monmouth and burial followed at Knights of Pythias cemetery. He had lived in Linn and Polk counties, moved to Farmington Washington, and married Anna Garrett in 1885. He is survived by his widow, three children, four brothers, one sister, and his parents, the Powells of Monmouth.

Tragic Fire Burns Child to Death in Luckimenute Willey
A mite daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Neal died after severe burns from a stove fire in their Luckimenute Willey home. While the mother tended the barn, the child reportedly reached the stove and clothing ignited. Despite Dr Butler’s arrival, the injuries were fatal within hours and the family narrowly avoided losing their home to the blaze. The child was buried on Wednesday.
