The Fourth Annual Independence Driving Club Meet closed Saturday with near 2000 in attendance. W. W. Percival led a capable committee to a successful three days of races across 14 events. Highlights included pacers Atthel and Blue Jacket winning, Sally Young and Mrs G A Young performing in mixed heats, and Pacific taking the day’s marquee 1 17 mile dash. An accident disrupted the final heats when sulkies collided, injuring driver Perry Nausey and prompting safety slowdowns.

Death of Thomas Pomeroy After Sudden Heart Failure
Last Sunday morning about 6 o'clock Thomas Pomeroy, a well known citizen, died of heart failure while returning home with his son from a hop ranch across the river from Haena Visa. The boy cried out of chest pains the night before. The funeral was held from the family residence last Monday afternoon with Rev. Mr. Dunsmore officiating. The family mourns two prior tragedies in recent months.
