A long personal letter describes an American regiment in France during World War I. The writer notes large troop movements, travel by convoy, and experiences in French villages and camps. He discusses language attempts, food, and living conditions, plus hopes to see family and baby.
A soldier writes to reassure his parents from the front, saying he is safe and in good spirits despite a tough game, asks for letters and to not worry, and asks they hope for a worthy welcome when the war ends. He signs as SAM and sends love to family.
Research from Oregon State College notes a cycle of high prices with large plantings and big surpluses causing low prices, followed by smaller plantings and higher prices. 1916 was strong for Oregon but weak elsewhere. 1917 saw overreactions to high 1916 prices. For 1918 the recommendation is plentiful planting in Oregon, with seed available and planting possible into July or later if rains are favorable. Potatoes on lower Columbian lands can succeed even after August.

The government plans meals for troops at Camp Feeding with 12 500 troops and three meals costing 14 000 dollars. It will use 121 tons of food and allocate 55 dollars to buy the food, with preparations to supply Liberty the Third Lean.
The United States issues a new wheat conservation plan under Herbert Hoover. Public, baker, and retailer groups must cut consumption, with households limited to about one and a half pounds weekly per person and two weekly wheatless days for institutions.

A well attended recital by the pupils of Mrs. Lottie Hedges Metitost Thursday at the church drew a capacity crowd. The younger pupils performed instrumental and vocal numbers with careful selection and the older group delivered songs and instrumental pieces with evident care and skill pleasing all in attendance.
A schedule lists nine meetings from June 10 to June 15 in towns including Airlie Falls City Monmouth Independence Buena Vista Eola West Salem Buell Ballston Rickreall Perrydale with guest speakers Edna Mills Dr Staats Dr Starbuck Oscar Hayter on defense and wheat conservation. Farmers urged to market wheat promptly and grocers told to accept flour in small amounts to meet current need.
