High School Exercises at Opera House Highlight 1902 Graduation
The Independence High School program featured W. G. Hawley delivering the address "Climb Though the books be tugged." Students Mae Kennedy Floyd Mix Inez Warner and others presented historical topics and musical numbers while Professors Hawley and Ketchum presided. The event closed with diplomas and a valedictory from Julien Hurley.

Rose Fair at Opera House Shows for Charity
Presbyterian ladies host Rose Fair on Thursday and Friday evenings the 12th and 18th at the opera house. Albino Minstrel show led by local talent on Thursday the 12th. Cash prizes for rose collections and specimens, ice cream and cake for 10c, admission 15c, children 10c. Reserved minstrels seats at Locke's drug store.

Decoration Day Observed in Independence with Oration
In Independence a Decoration Day program honored seven soldiers buried locally with flowers at the cemetery. Rev. G. Howard Osborne delivered the oration at the Auditorium, joined by Rev. B. J. Kelley and others in a service featuring songs and a color procession. Also noted is the death of Daniel S Nash, Civil War veteran aged 81, with memorial services led by Rev. B. J. Kelley and the G A R Post.
