At a Marshfield business dinner the town urged quick valuation and collection of a $150,000 bonus to support moving the Coos Bay Oregon and Idaho Railway to serve the area. The meeting drew 100 leaders as C Smith of Minnesota pledged $25,666 and officials pressed the rail line’s potential for local growth.
Petition filings in the Secretary of State office call for creating Williama County from parts of Lane and Douglas counties. A second petition seeks adding part of Clackamas to Multnomah County. A boundary change for Washington County is anticipated, along with petitions for Orchard County and several others.
Otto Gesel and Bobby Burne, partners in a wood business, fought in a Sandy Hollow camp. Burns allegedly kicked over bottles while Burne prepared root beer and Burns then stabbed Gesel in the neck in three places. Burne is jailed in Klamath Falls.
Secretary Ballinger has designated 129 600 acres in Oregon under the enlarged homestead act as not susceptible to irrigation at reasonable cost. The lands lie in townships 17 south range 6 east 18 south range 25 east 17 south range 28 east 21 south range 22 east 22 south range 32 east and 47 south range 20 east. The total designation under the act in Oregon reaches 88 848 500 acres.
