County Petitions Filed for New Willlama County and County Boundaries

Man and Partner In Knife Attack At Wood Camp

Otto Gesel and Bobby Burne, partners in a wood business, fought in a Sandy Hollow camp. Burns allegedly kicked over bottles while Burne prepared root beer and Burns then stabbed Gesel in the neck in three places. Burne is jailed in Klamath Falls.

Secretary Ballinger designates large Oregon lands as dry

Secretary Ballinger has designated 129 600 acres in Oregon under the enlarged homestead act as not susceptible to irrigation at reasonable cost. The lands lie in townships 17 south range 6 east 18 south range 25 east 17 south range 28 east 21 south range 22 east 22 south range 32 east and 47 south range 20 east. The total designation under the act in Oregon reaches 88 848 500 acres.

Scriber Found Guilty on Bank Embezzlement Indictments

Jefferaan W. Scriber, cashier of Farmers and Traders National Bank in La Grande, was found guilty by a Federal Court on four indictments totaling 40 counts. The jury deliberated 16 minutes and returned on a single ballot with charges including embezzlement, abstraction and misreporting of bank funds.
