Sudden Death of Indepen resident while cutting wood
An elderly Indepen resident, Weiss, collapsed last Thursday while cutting wood with his son-in-law present. He reportedly grew faint from a choking sensation after a brief struggle and died within minutes. Born in Virginia in 1840, he came to Kansas in 1870 and served as an old soldier with the muii regiment. Funeral Saturday, laid to rest by Gen. Gibaon Post.

Youth from Buena Vista Held for Concealed Weapon
Clarence Thompson a 14 year old from Buena Vista was arrested Tuesday morning for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon. He was examined by Justice Wilson and sent to Dallas to appear before County Judge Sibley who will likely send him to the reform school.

Independence Exhibit Tops City Displays in Hometown Tour
A. Le Roy of the Portland union depot information bureau visited Independence Monday to praise the local exhibit as superior to those in the metropolis. He praised Independence across Wallola and Douglas counties and urged other counties to follow Independence as the model.
