Silverton varsity edged Independence 24 to 19 at home in a tight game after a 24 to 12 loss at Monmouth. Fred Cavender officiated with Prof. Crowley from Independence calling the game as both teams showed strong teamwork and grit.

Real Estate Man Siezed By Paralysis In Office

Rh. R. Ferguson, a prominent Independence real estate man, suffered a sudden stroke in his office Saturday afternoon and is reported in critical condition. He has survived the affliction previously and is under Odd Fellows care as family doctors assess his outlook. Close Call As Runaway Team Frightens Town

Last Saturday forenoon a runaway team's wild dash through Main and Monmouth streets nearly ended at the railroad embankment. J M Jackson's team escaped injury when A Taylor boarded in time to stop them within six feet of the drop. Citizens feared a fatal fall, but no damage occurred to the carriage.

Last Wednesday was G. W. Kirkland's eighty third birthday and the Masonic lodge honored him with a handsome Morris chair. Members accompanied Dr. Dunsmore to the aged Mason's home for the presentation after an able address by the latter. Kirkland is the lodge's oldest member by years and service.

Pleasant supper and talks at Calvary Presbyterian Masonic Hall

The Ladies Aid of Calvary Presbyterian church hosted a supper for about 120 members and the congregation at the Masonic Hall last Thursday. Dr. Ernest F. Hall of San Francisco and Dr. J. P. Millican of Portland spoke at the after meeting, sharing missionary experiences. Both addressed the Calvary church gathering in the afternoon, highlighting Millican’s Oregon Sunday School work and Hall’s Korea mission career.

Ex Sheriff Prostrates Across Railroad Track in Polk County

An elderly former Polk County sheriff, aged over 72, was found lying face down across the Independence and Monmouth railroad track between Independence and Monmouth.
