A. J. Keeney was elected commander of the Independence post of Amelia Legion at the annual meeting last Friday night attended by about 30. Other officers elected include Vice Commander A. L. Local Poultrymen Hold Meeting Here

Atwater shoe store burglarized in Monmouth
The Atwater shoe store in Monmouth was broken into Wednesday night and about 125 dollars worth of shoes gloves and other items were stolen. Entry was gained by jimmying three rear doors fastened from inside with hooks. An estimated dozen pairs of shoes 20 pairs of gloves and laces were taken. No clues left. authorities conduct a thorough investigation.

Muhleman Enjoys Pasadena Stay After Mountain Drive
In a letter to the Enterprise Muhleman describes over a month in Ena California praising Pasadena. He recalls crossing the mountains with light snow and a brief storm while recounting a 78 hour drive from Independence to Red Bluff burning 72 gallons of gasoline for a heavy load. He visited Montague Fresno and Bakersfield with car maintenance underway before tackling 560 miles to San Fernando.

Valsetz Boy Injured in Fall From Speeder
Robert McCoy a 14 year old of Valsetz was rushed to Independence and then Salem hospital after being struck by a speeder wheel. He suffered severe leg injuries with one leg cut and the other bruised while riding with companions. his arm had recently been broken and was in splints. He bore the pain without a groan.

Monroe Veith Shot in Leg While Hunting
Monroe Veith, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Veith of Parker and a student at Independence High School, sustained a painful wound to the right leg from a shotgun blast when his foot snagged a fence line while hunting. The slug gouged a four inch by half inch wound. doctors expect full use of the limb to be recovered.
