Extreme dry and warm conditions in Oregon reduce the Willamette Valley hop yield to projections near 65 000 bales or less with many fields showing dry arms and blight. Growers warn the harvest will be shorter than last year though higher prices may offset losses. A connected note praises Coast cooperation for future development.

The YE BE church holds its fourth quarterly conference Saturday night with Dr. M. C. Wire of Hagene presiding in his final service before leaving the district. Sunday events include sermons titled The Prodigal Son and In the Beginning God. Maynard R. Thompson delivers farewell sermons at the Christian church next Lord's Day.
Harvey W. Scott died in a Baltimore hospital from heart failure thirty two hours after an operation. He was conscious to the end and passed at 5 p m with Mrs Scott and her son Leslie M at his bedside. Tributes from across the country followed his death, highlighting his influence as a leading editor. Remains to arrive in Portland tonight for a funeral likely Sunday under Masonry direction.
Several cases of typhoid fever reported in the Mason family in Krebs. All three patients are men and contracted the disease in Salem six weeks earlier while a family member was treated there for blood poisoning. The patients are now convalescing.
Mrs. Carrie Peck suffered severe injuries when a runaway horse frightened at the Williams Peck Blacksmith Shop caused her to be thrown against the sidewalk. She sustained facial lacerations a sprained right wrist and a bruised right shoulder.
Charles Ignace Oleman, born August 21 1846 in Hanover Germany, died at his Kings Valley home on Tuesday August 2 after years of illness and repeated surgeries. He lost his tongue long ago and lived on soups fearing starvation. He leaves a family of fifteen with fourteen children living and a brother Henry A. Oleman of Summit present at the funeral.
The article notes the death at age sixty three years eleven months twelve days of a longtime resident and veteran. He served as adilter in the Franco-Prussian war and married Louie Leopoldine Doboin in France and later moved to Canada in 1874. Their child died in Canada, and in 1880 they settled at their current home, living there for sixteen years by October. Horting of Sodaville, Mrs. Theresa Koerner of Independence, John Oleman of Philomath, Mrs. Louise Smith of Coburg, Mrs. Mary Hooper of Independence, Mrs. Clara Adler of Portland, and sons Charles, Levy, William, David, Fleming, and Mildred Oleman of Peede.
Last Friday evening the horse driven by F. Moseman for his milk route bolted after visiting Van Dornsife. Moseman was thrown from the wagon, injuring his leg so severely the knee was torn and he cannot walk for several weeks. The carriage itself sustained little damage.
The county bears expense to prosecute bootleggers and collect fines. Over three thousand dollars in added fines boost the county treasury, as taxpayers fund evidence gathering in the frequent local option enforcement efforts.
Geo Huntley formerly of Independence and brother of the Huntley boys here lost two fingers and a thumb in a recent saw mill accident.

Lone Oak track, famed for speed, may see new records as Chehalla set pacing marks in 1907 and Del Norte followed in 1908. Leland Onward holds the current track pacer record at 2:05 1-4, Day Break the trotting mark at 2:10 1-4, with Lady Sirius tying 2:10 1-4 in a 2:15 heat.
A political appeal urging voters to fund public schools in Monmouth by tax contribution. The message argues education improves opportunities and states a tax impact of four cents per $1000 for training teachers, signed by J. B. Butler as secretary of the committee.
