L A Hill donates nearly 2 acres south of the new high school grounds for a public park. The deed specifies open access for all lawful games and recreation, with the city council responsible for care and enforcement. The park will be named Hill Park and reverts if terms are violated.
Volunteers in Salem and Independence have donated tents, men, and tools to repair Hog Hill. The heavy grade is being shaved to about 2 percent as work proceeds. The community praises the spirit and urges tackling other bills next.
The Imperial Valley cantaloupe crop is described as vast with 2844 cars shipped in the late season and about 100 remaining. Peak day June 11 saw 139 carloads, a single train 895 feet long. Each car held 824 crates at 42 melons per crate totaling 14,580 melons per car and 1,939,140 melons in the long train. The year’s crop value is estimated at two and a quarter million dollars.

They estimate fifty to sixty bushels per acre. GOOD MAN COMING Rev J R Glitthay buys 100 acres of the old hire place three miles south of Independence at 100 dollars per acre. He moved to his farm this week with a car full of goods. his wife and children accompany him.
The editor and wife attended a Sunday sermon by Bud Robinson of Texas in a north Salem tent. Robinson, converted at 21 and later called to preach, moved audiences with laughter and tears. A second note credits Foley Kidney Pills for Belent’s recovery from kidney issues, promoting them as a tonic for workers.
