The Home Telephone Company merges with the Bell Company after Friday signing. C Carlos, manager of Home, purchased the local exchange and connected lines by 6 pm Friday. communication now extends over Home lines. Bell will handle long distance but via Home central. Mr Shenefield of Bell may relocate, prompting local regret.

Fire Destroys Farm Home of Paul Mann

Fire consumes the farm residence of Paul Mann north of the city early Friday forenoon. Origin believed from a defective flue. By the time help arrived, the upper floor was afire and the house and most contents were lost. Mann had no insurance. Neighbors saved some belongings but could not prevent total loss.

Crowley and Goodman wed after cross county ceremony

At the bride's home in Afftie on Sunday April 1 Richard CC Crowley married Erma Goodman with Rev Sanford Snyder officiating. An amusing moment arose when the minister found the home lay across county lines and could not wed there, so he crossed the Polk Benton boundary to perform the ceremony under an oak tree in Polk County.

B R Bridges of Polk county died at his Lucklamute River home after a brief pneumonia illness. Born in Springfield Saskatchewan, he moved to Independence Oregon in early life and lived there many years. He leaves four daughters, two sons and a widow.
