Pickles Car Collision Near Ash Creek Causes Narrow Escape

Mitchell, a Poland pickle house representative known locally as Pickles, narrowly escaped a deadly crash on the Willamette road when his auto veered into a telephone pole near Ash Creek. He suffered injuries but recovered enough to continue, while a companion escaped with minor harm and the Flanders car remained at an Independence garage for repairs.

Woman Struck by Auto on Dalas Depot Platform

Mrs. Lydian Howard was hit by a wireless automobile on the Dalas depot platform while waiting for a train to Independence. She suffered severe bruising, no broken bones, and was taken home to Ulis City for care. The car’s driver is unidentified, but witnesses recorded the machine number and the incident will be investigated.

Fire threat averted at J. H. Bohannon sash and door mill

A fire alarm Tuesday morning at 8 pm and again Saturday morning revealed two fires in the J. H. Bohannon sash and door factory. A box of oily rags and combustibles burned but were extinguished before serious damage. Authorities suspect arson after the second incident. police guarded the site overnight.

Falls From Hammock Hurt Lucklamute Teen

The fifteen year old daughter of Frank Loughary of Lucklamute fell from a hammock on Saturday, fracturing her right collar bone. Dr. Butler reduced the fracture and the patient is resting comfortably.

Fire crews raced to a Monmouth Street residence Saturday morning where a small blaze broke out in the roof from a defective flue. Hose attached to a hydrant, but residents fought the flames from the roof and extinguished them with little damage.

East Independence to join Oregon Electric Railway timetable

East Independence formerly Rocky Point will be added to the Oregon Electric Railway time card. The company will build a station named East Independence and Skinner Brothers will operate a launch to meet all trains. Cars are expected on the east side by June 15.

Demonstration Car Tour by Southern Pacific Poultry Officials

The Southern Pacific poultry demonstration car, equipped by the Oregon Agricultural College extension division, will visit Willamette valley towns and reach Independence on Saturday May 4. C. C. Lamb leads the tour with R. B. Thompson and Prof James Dryden supervising a program of lectures and demonstrations.
