Race horses arrive in city for Independence track meet

Several horses arrived in the city Monday from different parts of the country and are in training at the Independence track in preparation for the forthcoming meet. More horses are expected to arrive this week.

A well received vaudeville troupe visited Independence at the Star Theatre with three shows Monday Tuesday and Wednesday under McCarty and Wohl. The group impressed audiences with song and dance specialties showing seasoned stage experience and drew fairly large crowds.

Stockholders urged to act to salvage investment at Independence Cannery

Stockholders are urged to turn over shares to the committee at Kirkland Drug Store to recover at least 60 percent of their investment. Delay risks foreclosure of the mortgage and sale of the property to satisfy creditors. The committee has a few days to act or the initiative will be lost.

Woodmen M. W. A. Delegates Convene in City

A meeting of M. W. A. county delegates was held in the city on Wednesday afternoon. Falls City camp was represented by Alcock and Allis, Suver by Thurston and DeArmon, and Independence by Solle and Travis. J. J. Thurston of Suver was elected delegate to the state head camp meeting next month.

City Council Passes Cement Walks and Curbstone Plan

At a Wednesday meeting the cement sidewalk and curbstone ordinance was approved and the city attorney tasked with drafting papers for five blocks of hard surface pavement improvements. The town notes weekly progress in civic development by its citizens.
