A waterfront explosion touched off a blaze in Portland on the riverfront yesterday afternoon destroying four docks, two with thousands of bushels of grain awaiting export, and wrecking one large and one small steamship before they could be moved to safety. Several other vessels narrowly escaped damage as the fire spread along the water.

Mail contractor arrives over the Seward trail
Colonel H. E. Revelle, awarded the mail contract for the Seward trail for four years starting November, arrived at Diery last evening and is due in this city today to organize swift mail handling.
