The Fairbanks Times Mount McKinley expedition arrived Feb 18 at the mountain base. The advance guard of Parker Brown's expedition is overdue. The Times group left Feb 5 with two sleds, nineteen dogs, 1600 pounds of grub. Members: George S. Lewis Martin Nash Ralph Cairns Jack Phillips. Phillips heads supplies. others aim for the summit. Hot Springs stream tin brings very good price
Fairbanks reports payment of 336 dollars per ton for over half a ton of placer tin ore from the Hot Springs district. The cassiterite ore, called stream tin, was shown at a New York land show and shipped to a Wales smelter, yielding more than 50 percent commercial tin. The ore can clog sluices and has previously been sent to waste dumps. it is also found in the Old Man country and northern Yukon creeks.
