Flat City Fourth of July Celebration Plans

Flat City prepares for a civic celebration featuring a Discovery versus Flat baseball game with a $24 purse, an oration by Judge C. E. Taylor, and a 1 pm sports program. Court to Hear Motion Docket Before July Opening

The court under Judge Overfield will likely hold a session in this city before the term opens on July 10 to hear expo matters and rule on motions and pleadings. TREACHEROUS SUMMER TRAIL TO IDITAROD WARNED BY ALASKAN PRESS

In Shagluk Slough a warning is issued against sending newcomers on Dikeman to Iditarod routes without charts or guides. Two men are overdue after failing to connect with parties, and another Alaskan sourdough, Joe Muldoon, drowns after falling from Seattle No. 3 near Shagluk Slough. Muldoon, once of Fairbanks, reportedly carried about a thousand dollars in belt money.

Otto Windhorst Ends Life In Alaska River Tragedy

Otto Windhorst a Missouri native and longtime Alaska prospector aged about 50 committed death by self destruction Wednesday night in shallow river water a mile and a half below the city His body was found Thursday morning by Joe Brown and a coroner's jury brought it to the city He had left the Vachon Sterling store earlier that day saying he would sell a case of goods He left a $16 bill with J H Rogers to deliver to Fred Galli He marked his hat and left a memorandum in his vest listing relatives and indicated a signal to attract attention He reportedly drank a few beers and carried a pint of whiskey He had recent financial reverses and attempted a tramway venture from Seward to Flat He had worked for Vachon Sterling and other firms in Dawson and prospecting in Nebesna His relatives include W Windhorst in Florida and several Windhorst family members in Missouri None of his estate was known beyond personal effects

Alaska road effort targets to Flat Creek link

Lieutenant Edgerton of the Alaska road commission arrives to study a direct route from this city to Flat Creek. Foreman R S Giddings starts a 12 man crew on the Seward Iditarod trail segment, aiming to transform it into a regional highway. About $7000 in funds plus potential road taxes will fund the project as routes are evaluated and chosen for the fastest feasible connection.

Iditarod Fire Ravages Willow Street Block

A large blaze at the Board of Trade saloon on Willow street destroyed most of a block, spreading rapidly through stores and causing about $50,000 in losses. Firefighters, volunteers, and local crews saved several buildings as mobile property was moved away. Names of damaged businesses include Miller & Jerman, Popich & Jemno, Royal Cafe, Moose cafe, Ophir house, and more, with total losses mounting as crews fought the flames through the night.

Another Tramway Is About to Commence

A new tramway directed by James Wilson will start within days from this city to Fiat using horse power initially with gasoline cars planned later. Promoters include Frederick Wilson Spokane James Wilson San Francisco I S Robe and Ben Cockrill with funds secured and work to begin in about four days. The venture may connect with an existing line and aims to run cars within a month as an experiment before full equipment is settled.

Flat Creek vs Iditarod Winner Take All Ball Game

A July 4th event at the Cleveland mill ball grounds features Flat Creek and Iditarod teams for a winner take all purse. Lineups include McNamee, Beleal, Bidwell, Hen and Meyers with 12:30 start, amid a city celebration with a large hoedown and dance at the A.B. hall.

N C Gets Order for Fire Apparatus

North ern Commercial Co, the sole bidder, wins a city contract to furnish a four inch Worthington pump, 2000 feet of hose, hose carts, mains and nozzles at 5.52 delivered. Dispatch urged to have gear arrive by late summer while a three inch pump already operates. A new 100 ton barge for the General Jacobs was built at Fort Gibbon by the government.

Gauss of Death Remains a Mystery

Robert Linder a young German baker, missing while hunting in early June near Dikeman, is believed to have drowned after his body was found by Horseshoe Lake. His gun was strapped to his back, suggesting an attempted crossing or pursuit of a duck. He was buried in Dikeman without an inquest, though Commissioner Stanton planned an inquest downriver the following day.

Capt Ferguson Starts Iditarod River Shipping Plans

Capt W H Ferguson head of the portation Co arrived at Dikeman last Tuesday with gasoline launches Rough Rider and Keystone, horse scows and paraphernalia to engage in Iditarod river shipping this summer. He is now getting in shape to begin business. General Manager A J Lowe of the company set out early this week to meet him.

Regina cafe to open Sunday with five oclock dinner
