In Fort Gibbon area a 47 year old Joe Hamlin a 3 year old George LeCland and 39 year old Napoleon LaCasse died after drinking five quarts of whiskey and additional commercial alcohol toddies. They suffered rapid deterioration with Napoleon dying at the post hospital and LeCland and Hamlin already dead on the third island. Autopsy showed acute alcohol poisoning with chronic alcoholism in Napoleon. Survivors included families in Montana and Manitoba, and all were buried Sunday in Catholic rites.
An upcoming dog race starts January 1 in Iditarod City with a $359 first prize, $100 second and $50 third. Judges, starters, timekeepers, and marshals are named, entry closes December 28, ten minute starts, and a large field may enter from Claude Shea to Harry Karstens.
