Arctic Brothers Step Into Breach in Flat City
The Arctic brothers, 75 current members with 100 projected, formed a camp in the Finnegan and Mensel building. They will build Flat City’s social hall, appointing Charles E. Taylor as chair, Dr. Carter secretary, C. R. Peck as treasurer, and naming a trustees board to begin construction. They planned to telegraph Seattle for a charter, then held a music session.

Last week a jury told Bill Ansley to yield possession of a corner lot on Richmond Court and First Street, at the urging of Greg Stewart who claimed the right of possession in a case before Commissioner Maltby. Major Albrecht and Charles Taylor appeared for the parties, with trial to be reheard before Judge Overfield next spring. Stewart also sued Teresa Roscoe for possession of the lot occupied by the Roscoe candy store.

A New Years Day dog race from Iditarod City through Flat to Discovery Otter and back aims to settle the long debate over the country’s fastest teams. Purse will be at least $15 for first and $50 for second. entry fee $10. At least six entries guaranteed with many mushers promising teams from Nome, Fairbanks, and Flat. Race covers about 20 miles, no weight limits, drivers must finish with outfit. Public lineup to be announced next week.

Tries to Snuff Out Light in Desperate Suicide Attempt
Frank Hammond an old time Northerner, formerly of Dawson, attempted suicide on Moore creek by gunshot to the breast on Saturday and then tried to cut his throat on Monday. After a jury deemed him insane on Friday, he was kept in the federal jail until transfer. He later attempted self harm again while en route to town, slashing his throat but not fatally. Dr. Brooks, aided by Arthur Eaton, intervened, Hammond survived and remains under care with no known relatives or property.

Misfortune saves his life at a roadhouse
Charles Bradshaw cut his instep while felling wood near Moore Creek and severed a major artery. Dr. Brooks arrived promptly and tied the artery, sewing the wound, saving Bradshaw from likely death as his boot filled with blood. The scene was described as gruesome but Bradshaw rested easily and was out of danger when aid arrived.
