IC R A approves cut back of Hyde Park local trains
The Illinois Central R.A. wins approval to drop the 44 two car Hyde Park local trains on the Loop to 53rd street electric suburban service effective Oct. 30. ICC approval came despite Hyde Park Kenwood groups and Alds. Despres and Holman opposition citing impact on urban renewal. Stops at 35th and 39th streets will close and travel time in the Loop to 53rd st local will rise from 33 to 48 minutes. About 120000 daily riders will need new schedules, with officials saying the change may avert a fare increase and improve suburban finances.

Hyde Park Kiwanis Peanut Day Drives Over 14000 Bags
Hyde Park Kiwanis Club filled over 14000 bags of peanuts to aid the needy children's fund. President Robert Weir said the drive was quite successful with about 4000 more bags sold than last year as 40 club members and 25 spouses manned city streets.

WTTW Seeks Viewer Reaction for Test Program Schedule
WTTW announced plans to evaluate its programs through a viewer advisory council and questionnaires. The station begins a two day a week test schedule on Channel 11 with shows from 4 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays. The council will meet four times a year, with the first meeting scheduled for November, and about 200 Channel 11 chapters across Chicago will form its nucleus.

Hero Awards To HP Police
Hyde Park and Woodlawn policemen received cash honors for outstanding work. Two Woodlawn officers earned 100 each for a gun battle near Gist street and Kenwood on June 18. the suspect died and had multiple prior crimes. Four Hyde Park officers received 50 each for arrests of robbery suspects after incidents on April 5 and May 21.

Little League Player Seeks Rabies Dog Owner
Joe Shatterbeck of 5450 Cornell, a Little League team member from St. Thomas the Apostle church, faces painful rabies shots after a dog bite Sunday afternoon August 18 at the Point foot of 55th and the Lake. He was bitten at a drinking fountain while the dog, small and on a leash held by a lady, escaped with little detail from the boy and family seeks the owner to begin treatment by the weekend.
