Walter Walker releases a report noting rising campus related crime nationwide and in the University of Chicago area. He credits University security and Chicago Police with ongoing efforts including a 24 hour patrol and quick apprehensions.
A slate of 29 nominees spans Hyde Park and Kenwood with three incumbents re nominated to full terms Elwood Brugger Paul Carson and Joan Coppleson among them The list includes Ar vis Averette Jan Blankenhorn Arthur Bryant Hope Bulger Arlene Crewdson Phil Elmes Ann Fennessy and many others from East and Central Hyde Park Kenwood and nearby areas
Congressmen led by Ralph Metcalfe sign a resolution urging the judiciary committee to investigate President Nixon. Metcalfe notes 63 signatures, beyond the 25 required, and says watergate tapes fail to answer all questions. He denounces Nixon as placing himself above the law and questions presidential accountability.
The 21st police district shows a 17.8 percent drop in violent crime in the first 10 periods of 1973 versus 1972. About one third of such crime occurred in Hyde Park Kenwood, the district's densest area ending near 15th Street. Murder, rape, robbery, and serious assault totals include 27, 53, 918, and 392 respectively.
