Kenwood Peaceful Despite Large Absenteeism
On Monday October 21 Kenwood High School saw about two fifths of its students absent as part of a citywide boycott against the Board of Education. Hyde Park High reported 90 percent absence while Ray Elementary had 10 percent. District 14 overall faced 18 percent nonattendance, with Kenwood’s count higher than the prior Monday. One reported incident occurred at Ray School where a group of Hyde Park girls attacked a Negro student, leading to police reports of battery and assault.
