Reward Offered for Killer in Hyde Park Slaying
A $10,000 reward is posted by the Hyde Park YMCA Hyde Park Business and Professional association and Southeast Chicago commission for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of those involved in the stabbing death of Dale Richmond 21 of 5335 S Dorchester. Richmond was stabbed multiple times early last Wednesday in front of 1410 E 54th St and died at Billings hospital after leaving the Eagle tavern at 5311 S Blackstone.

STEP school advocates budget for special education
A STEP school representative addressed the board of education about proposed budget cuts harming special education services. The Coordinating Council for Handicapped Children noted about 100,000 Chicago handicapped children need services, with only 46,284 currently served and 13,513 unserved under prior funding. The STEP school statement urged more teachers, classrooms, materials, and not funding flashy new projects.

Amendment to Hyde Park Kenwood renewal plan lands up to 200 housing units
The Hyde Park Kenwood urban renewal plan amendment changes three sites for higher density use and school facilities. Gateway Vistas seeks 193 elderly housing units under Section 236 financing at 57th and Stony Island. A Murray elementary parking site will yield seven housing units, while the Bryson hotel site will be sold to the Board of Education to add Kenwood high school recreation space. The DUR board approved the amendment September 10 and the Conservation Community council in February. it proceeds to the City council.

Hyde Park residents are invited to an 8 p.m. Friday gathering at Dale Pontius’s home 5213 S Blackstone to discuss measures to curb crime. The panel includes criminologist Don Blackiston, organizer Helaine Billings, Father James O’Malley, with a 21st police district representative and the Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference also invited.
