Despres reports city will add another tow truck after a special meeting with the purchasing agent police and streets commissioner. He cites 200 to 300 abandoned cars in the fifth ward and a parking crisis, promising improvements in car removal procedures.
Four hundred visitors toured Kenwood homes during a Kenwood Corporation Real Estate Committee Open House festival. Eighteen properties were shown on three guided trips, with coffee afterward and a list of over fifty interested buyers.
Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference presents The Little Fugitive at Harper Theater on June 2 with 6:45 and 8:30 p.m. showings. Tickets 98 cents with free parking at Piccadilly lot, 51st and Harper. Ticket sales coordinated by Mrs Keck and assistants, with office contact BU 8-8343.
Hyde Park residents attend the SECC meeting on May 10 as a wrecking crane tears into a house at 5456 Blackstone marking the start of Hyde Park redevelopment. Mayor Daley and five Land Clearance commissioners witness the ceremony after reports from SECC leaders.
The burned Pratt house at 1228 E 57th will be demolished by the city this week. Demolition begins this morning per Col. Jack Rielly of the city building department. Owner Mrs. Julia Pratt. case overseen by Judge Julius Miner.
J. Ross Humphreys of Land Clearance praised city agencies for moving the project forward at a house ceremony. Elmer Donahue spoke on behalf of the Hyde Park Kenwood Community conference thanking the city agencies. Ald. Leon Despres urged progress as old dwellings are removed for new homes.
Edward J. Corsi, ex-immigration commissioner, speaks at Mandel hall on May 25 about the Hyde Park-Kenwood Korean village project to aid Tap Shim Ni near Seoul. Funds support farm tools, books, schoolhouse materials, animals, and sewing machines. admission 80 cents, students 40 cents. CARE helps sponsor with local groups.
The Northwest Hyde Park Neighborhood Redevelopment drive will hold a public meeting Tuesday May 24 from 8 30 to 9 30 p m at Congregation Habonim 1122 E 53rd St. Pre incorporation subscribers will elect a board of directors and discuss a redevelopment plan covering 511st to 55th streets Woodlawn Ave to Cottage Grove. Only residents who bought $10 shares may vote.
