The Community Conservation Board designated Hyde Park-Kenwood as the city's first conservation area under the 1953 Urban Community Conservation Act. The 47th to 59th streets, Cottage Grove to the Lake area excludes U. of C. projects. A federal planning grant of 198000 began studies in 1955 with 89100 spent. a mid June report is due.
