City unveils Jackson Park plan with outer drive maps

Public works commissioner Milton Pikarsky announced that detailed maps of the Jackson Park changes from 59th to 67th streets plus an overall park plan will be shown to Hyde Park Kenwood in about two weeks. A $250000 contract was awarded to Johnston Westenhoff and Novick to map Corwell Drive alignment and bridle paths and gardens. Planning commissioner Ira J. Bach is crafting an overall Jackson Park proposal with the Chicago Park District for full public hearings before Plan Commission review, with $5000000 in funding awaiting approval from federal state and local sources. Preliminary sketches for north of 59th Street and the contested interchange will be presented after Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference members discussed interchanging plans and concessions.

City Speaks on Cornell Drive and 63rd Street Interchanges

Pikarsky notes changes would be less detailed than city plan for Cornell Drive south of 59th. He met with interchange members and discussed a later 63rd Street interchange. Conference officials deny concessions and demand a full lakefront plan before discussing South Outer Drive. Residents express concern about bisecting Jackson Park and isolating Hyde Park and Woodlawn.
