HPKCC Seeks Sites and Subsidies for 47th Place Relocation

The Chicago Housing Authority plans to build 26 public housing units and rehabilitate 60 existing ones plus lease more under the rent subsidy program in Hyde Park Kept by CHA. Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference proposes relocation housing and designates sites in urban renewal plan and urges nearby residents to relocate before demolition.

Arson Investigation Opened in Hyde Park Fire

Fire at 5537 Hyde Park Blvd last Friday appears arson aided by newspapers placed in five locations inside the apartment of Mrs. Cora Lee Kern. Damage confined to the Kern unit. pets died, clothes destroyed. Authorities from the Chicago Fire Department arson division and the police bomb and arson unit lead the probe.

Hyde Park Bank opens urban development division for ghetto investment

Hyde Park Bank and Trust creates an urban development division to fund loans to ghetto entrepreneurs, mortgage credit for residents, and counseling for loan recipients. Milton Davis named director. Ronald Grzywinski cites private sector leadership in urban renewal. The program draws from state funds and bank earnings, with SBA guarantees on many loans. First quarter 1968 earnings rise to $5.38 per share, revenue up 35 percent.
