Hyde Park invites schools and community groups to join the June 19 fair on 53rd Street from Lake Park to Kimball. The event runs from noon to evening with booths crafts fair talent show and street dance. Craft exibitors must register separately and coupons are in today's Herald.
The Hyde Park Kenwood Historical Society holds its first public meeting on May 12 at St Thomas Apostle Woodlawn Church 55th and beginning 8 p.m. Leon M. Despres will discuss Whats Past is Prologue an examination of Hyde Park history. A photo exhibit Old Hyde Park will be displayed and prizes awarded for longest resident living here oldest Hyde Park Kenwood photo and oldest letter.
Alderman Ross Lathrop will introduce a closing ordinance for the dangerous 56th Street and Lake Shore Drive intersection at the May 5 City Council meeting. A three year safety study cited 41 plus accidents on South Lake Shore Drive.
The Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference urges Chicago to prioritize rehabilitating multi family dwellings in the second year of Community Develop ment funds. It calls for doubling housing rehab funds, expanding technical assistance, aiding delinquent taxes, and stronger citizen participation with public hearings and reports.
Community Conference Environment Committee votes no confidence in Chicago Park District for South Shore Country Club park management. They cite demolition of the Casino and Corondo, exclusion of education programs, and failure to implement Center on the Lake proposals.
