Rodfei Zedek elders create a stop and go light to cue children when to drown out the name of Haman during Purim readings. The device enables orderly participation and reflects a true ecumenical spirit with many members contributing to the service.

EDUCON hearing seeds a hero centered school model

Six Hyde Park residents testified at the March 7 EDUCON hearing held at the Museum of Science and Industry. Delegates will review school priorities at a March 24 25 26 convention to be presented to state and city authorities. Rev Ralph Reynolds urged an alternate school concept to unleash each child’s hero through engaging learning and inclusive community models.

Students sue Chicago Board over constitution rights in school records

Kenwood High parents lead a class action in U S District Court on behalf of 12 students and all Chicago Public School students alleging collection and disclosure of a SDS chapter and student addresses. The suit, supported by the ACLU, seeks measures to stop future constitutional rights violations. The plaintiffs request anonymity.

Hyde Park-Kenwood to Open Sojourner Truth Day Care Center

The Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference announces the Sojourner Truth Day Care center opening April 15 at St. Paul church 49th and Dorchester. Suzanne Seward Happel named director by the HPKCC Women’s Rights committee. Volunteers sought three hours daily two days a week for six weeks. Community donation drive for books toys arts supplies and equipment.

Tribute wreath toss honors Darrow in Jackson Park

Alderman Leon Despres with Arthur Weinberg and Alderman elect Richard Simpson retrieve a memorial wreath from Jackson Park Lagoon. The wreath was to be removed to prevent polluting the lagoon during the annual tribute to Clarence Darrow.
