Nike installation in Jackson Park to be removed by June 30
Congressman Abner Mikva announces the Nike site in Jackson Park will be phased out by June 30. The Army operates 27 such sites nationwide, costing about $31 million annually, as the facilities are retired to save money and due to obsolescence. Mikva hopes the land will be returned to public use with city and park cooperation.
