A Woodlawn ward office staffer, Mrs. Annette Willis, completed a 26 week clerical training program funded by a $168,691 federal grant to The Woodlawn Organization. Alderman Leon Despres and committee chair Robert Picken deny improper use and say the program was arranged by the 5th ward citizens committee. Despres notes $650 federal reimbursement and that the office has long supported nonpartisan services. Thomas Augustine of the Federal and Training agency is reviewing the matter.
