Shop owner shot in robbery Friday
A 53rd Street businessman, John Hanus, owner of John's Men and Boys Store at 1459 E. 53rd, was killed by a robber Friday morning between 9:30 and 10. The assailant tied a clerk and two customers, then fled. Hanus died at Billings Hospital. Police described the suspect as a six foot tall light-skinned Black man in a gray tweed overcoat.

Funeral Services Held for slain businessman John Hanus
Funeral services were held Monday at Weinstein Chapel for John Hanus owner of John’s Men and Boys Store who was killed by a robber last Friday. Burial followed at Waldheim Cemetery. Hanus, 50, came from Hungary 17 years ago and left a legacy in Slyde Park after 15 years in business. He is survived by his wife and four children aged 4 to 19. The family resided in South Shore.
