O Hara Koz Gets Use Of Williams Field For Summer Recreation
The Board of Education and George Williams College arranged use of the college athletic field at Kozminski School for a city run summer recreation program directed by Francis B. McKeag. The program runs daily to Aug. 27 with Ms Helen Miranda and aides overseeing activities for southeast Chicago residents entering Hyde Park Kenwood community efforts. Local rally speakers attacked park destruction and urged park improvements including radar relocate plans and new lakefront development.

Vandals Hit 4 Hyde Park Cars In Weekend Damage Spree
Four Hyde Park residents had cars damaged by vandalism last week. Albert Droste's car at 5600 Kimbark burned after a mysterious fire ignited four dynamite sticks he kept for stump blasting. He was fined 25 dollars in Grand Crossing court for transporting explosives without a permit. Fire also damaged N A Rogers at 1157 E 56th whose car wiring burned, setting off the horn and exposing a severed radio aerial. Mary Proctor at 5637 Woodlawn had her tires slashed behind her home.

Merriam Accepts Budget Agency Post in Washington
Robert E. Merriam, former fifth ward alderman and mayoral candidate, is named assistant to the director of the budget in Washington. He starts August 1 after ending his Ford Foundation consulting. Promontory meeting urges offshore island for Army installations

A six week drive in Hyde Park-Kenwood raised 2131.67 for Tap Shim Ni in Korea with two events a street party and a Mahalia Jackson concert bringing in about 700 toward a 2500 goal. CARE Midwest will pool funds and forward to New York for rapid distribution of chickens, pigs, plows, tools, grain, sewing machines and school supplies to the village of 400 plus residents. Individuals may donate from one dollar to reach the goal.
