Break in damage leads to church building sale

The Church of the Redeemer at 56th and Blackstone will be sold after repeated break ins forced closure. Father Warner White said damage and security issues disrupted activities including Friday teen parties and Dinah Cody School of the Dance. The merger with St Paul Episc Church moved operations to the newer Paul building.

Redeemer experience sparks fear of youth programs without staff

Hyde Park Kenwood summer youth plans shrink after the Church of the Redeemer closure. Repeated breakins and May 31 disturbances prompted residents and police concerns. Church leaders say staffing costs and supervision hurdles threaten churches' ability to offer teen programs this summer.

Dunbar Builders Acquire 54th and Lake Park Site

The National Tea Company sold vacant land at 54th and Lake Park to Dunbar Builders. Vice president Louis R. Silverman says several uses are under study. The site, once earmarked for a supermarket, was part of Hyde Park urban renewal after Rubloff’s project faced a co op lease challenge. The urban plan allows sale at market price with control over development.
