Plan commission approves Daley lakefront ordinances

The Chicago Plan Commission backed Lakefront Plan ordinances guiding development near Lake Michigan and subjecting major city projects to new controls. It urged Council changes while rejecting a stricter Wigoda road ban and noted testimony from 30 groups and 450 pages of exhibits from the August 2 hearing.

CTA cutbacks affect Hyde Park and nearsouth riders

New CTA service changes take effect Sunday Sept 2 and Sept 9. Discontinued and rerouted routes include Drexel Hyde Park route 1 with evening service cut. Jeffery route 5 local north of 63rd. and 26th-31st route extended with longer hours and new termini.

Kenwood to switch to gas heating under CSERP plan

Louis Wirth Experi m ental School will convert to gas heating by October 1 as part of the CSERP project run by Kenwood High School environmental education and computer programming students. The project has tracked neighborhood smok e emissions and helped secure bids from Hans Jensen & Sons for the conversion, which will end daily black smoke reported last winter.
