CCC delays action on Osteopathic hospital plans in Hyde Park

The Hyde Park Conservation Community council postponed an official stance on the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine plan for a clinic and housing in West Hyde Park after residents raised complaints at a public hearing. The hearing was held at the request of the Chicago Plan Commission, which approved the proposal subject to a later decision.

Osteopathic plan faces resident worries at hearing

About 40 West Hyde Park residents criticized the College of Osteopathic plans to build an outpatient clinic a block from 53rd Street and Berkeley, arguing traffic and parking hazards will rise and that parking fees may deter use of Osteopathic lots. Edwin Rothschild, CCC chair, toured the sites between 52nd Street and 54th Place and between Drexel and Berkeley, signaling possible CCC position before the Sept. 10 Chicago City Council meeting on rezoning for a residential planned development. The council could still approve despite CCC input, and the next CCC meeting followed Mayor Daley's July 31 appointments.
