Kenwood High Becomes an Academy in Chicago
Kenwood High School was designated a secondary school academy by the Chicago Board of Education. The designation preserves the neighborhood high school status while allowing out of district students only if they can read at grade level. The change maintains staff and racial integration, ends transfer from Kenwood, and requires a parental permit for outside students. The school will keep its enrichment programs, language offerings, and partnerships with the University of Chicago, with many graduates moving to four year colleges.
