Informant details student death tied to Gromer case
An anonymous informant recounts the night student Mark Gromer was fatally injured at 5344 Woodlawn and the alleged role of Deola Johnson and Ellis McInnis. Tennis facility wins support amid Hyde Park Kenwood housing debate
At a July zoning hearing in the Luther Seminary the CCC approved a land use change for KOCO to build a mixed income housing site north of 47th Street designed by John Bartolomeo. Opponents urged low income housing on the site while Bartolomeo outlined plans including an indoor track and courts for tennis racket ball and squash. Bartolomeo predicted a September 1978 opening if city approvals come through. Incidentally a second hearing drew many north of 47th Street residents. Separately, Joan Matlaw, chief counsel for Michael Reese Hospital, was killed in Aspen Colorado two days earlier. She is survived by her husband and three children.
