Illinois Central Train Changes Face Second Public Hearing
The Illinois Commerce Commission sets August 16 for a second public hearing on the Illinois Central railroad request to modify south side commuter service. The plan would close stations at 31st 35th and 39th streets cut local service between Randolph and 53rd and adjust schedules including a 40 minute non-rush interval at 47th street while boosting Hyde Park traffic by reducing total trains from 208 to 200.

James Irving of 4959 Greenwood is indicted by a federal grand jury for income tax evasion. The government contends Irving earned far more than his reported 1952 income of 48724, claiming 224,994. A self descriptive informant, Claude Murphy, testified before the jury about lavish home furnishings and policy wheel earnings.
