Coordinated Youth Program signals success with 381 youths registered across three church centers in Hyde Park. Joseph Field, YMCA staff director, cites lack of money to hire adequate staff and fund counseling services as the main hurdle, despite strong volunteer support and community criticism.
The Department of Urban Renewal will erect ten two story modular houses at the I-2 site east of St. Paul Redeemer Church as a three month public review demo. Units cost 13000 to 15000 dollars with financing via Chicago Dwellings Association. If accepted, more units could follow in Hyde Park area.
State Senator Richard Newhouse says black leaders are underrepresented in Hyde Park Kenwood affairs and helped form the Black Caucus Report to the Ad Hoc Committee. The document notes limited Black involvement in planning and groundbreaking projects despite community support from various organizations.
