Mikva urges immediate funds for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore
Senator Abner J. Mikva told the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee that immediate money is needed to acquire land for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. He warned that without fast action a 27 acre railroad yard, jet airport, highway rights of way, and harbor expansion threaten the project, and that current authorization may be insufficient. He stressed recreation access for urban residents and projected the Dunes becoming the system’s most popular area once complete.
