Northern Pacific Trainmen Reach Wage Agreement Abolish Double-Header Trains

A settlement reached in St Paul between Northern Pacific officials and trainmen grants the men all demands including abolition of double-header trains and wage increases of 15 percent for freight trainmen 12 percent for passenger brakemen and one half cent per hour for yardmen. The wage question was not at issue, and the double-header matter was the principal hurdle.

Strike risk looms for 100000 Great Lakes dock workers

Chicago April 15. A meeting today could decide a strike affecting up to 100000 workers on the Great Lakes. Package Freight Handlers of Chicago will present an ultimatum to managers of Lake lines and labor contractors supplying Chicago river dock work. The dispute centers on wages with the Longshoremen association backing workers.

Freight handlers strike ties up Duluth docks

Over 300 union freight handlers in Duluth walked out demanding 40 cents an hour for piece work and 30 cents for steady work. They refuse to work past midnight, reversing from 26 and 30 cent rates. The action threatens shipments under Northern Pacific contracts and alarms tug crews facing a tied port.
