Oberlin Commencement Reflections From a Bachelor Visitor
A visitor recalls Oberlin College Commencement experiences, noting missed Ladies' Department exercises, impressive ladies’ compositions, and a metaphysical Alumni address by Mr Streby. He describes lodging at a public house, sharing a rough oak-plank bed, and early crowds filling the large stage church for forenoon exercises amid broad attendance from many states.

Oberlin remarks on commencements and education reform
The letter from Elyria dated August 28, 1845 reports a large Oberlin commencement with 5000 attendees, praising graduates and speakers, noting abolitionist plans, and a choir under Prof. Allen. It also criticizes penmanship in common schools and proposes reforms for building better schools, trained teachers, and improved handwriting standards.
The Common Schools of Ohio Sketches
In Milan Ohio on September 12 1845 Jeanine Extraogoyany notes that common schools backed by notable statesmen aided learning, arguing many leaders rose from humble schooling. A temperance scene in Osceola and Milan contrasts reformers with a rugged challenge where water defeats alcohol in a jump contest as crowds cheer.
