Wit and Eloquence at Memphis Political Rally
Gov. Jones and Aaron V. Brown spoke in Memphis on the 26th urging a rough and ready stance. Jones ridiculed Cass and praised Henry Clay while Brown lauded Clay's legacy and attacked the Whigs. The crowd cheered as Jones delivered a fiery oration lauding patriotism and condemning opponents with biting humor.

A Whig Anecdote of Gen. Taylor and a German Widow
An excerpt from Staunton Spectator recounts Gen Taylor as a whig but not an ultra whig. He notes battles from 1812 to Monterrey and Buena Vista showing whigs and democrats united, then dying with constitutions broken. A Somerset widow mocks both parties, naming Rough and Ready and Old Shack as Taylor and Van Buren supporters.

Whigs Rally and Cass's Free Soil Foes in Play for Election
A lengthy pamphlet of political alerts notes dangers to the free North from Cass and Van Buren alignment efforts. It reports Whig meetings across Huron County with speakers, calls for vigilance against plots to push the election to the House, and cites editorials criticizing Free Soil zeal and Cass supporters. It also references a Michigan and Detroit episode on white slavery laws, and warns of late campaign schemes by Locofocos designed to harm Taylor and Fillmore.
