The House Committee on Indian Affairs backs a pension for Milly, a Creek Indian woman who, in 1818 during the South Indian War, saved a naked prisoner from execution at the Apalachicola. Milly, daughter of Prophet Francis, pleaded with captors and her kin until the man was spared in exchange for adopting Creek dress and customs. Now aged and poor, Milly lives among her people near Verdigris. the War Department recommends eight dollars monthly for life.
