The French Revolution and Lafayette’s Unyielding Fidelity
A sweeping 18th century analysis recounts the rise of elected kings and a strong executive in France, Lafayette’s pivotal role as Commander of the National Guard, and his enduring loyalty to the constitution amid mob violence, conspiracies, and shifting powers. It notes the Bastille’s destruction, the Jacobin influence, and the perilous path toward a royal democracy, ending with Lafayette’s steadfast insistence on constitutional fidelity despite immense danger.
