Liberia Emigration and Uplift Featured in Huron Reflector
The paper highlights the Liberia colony's growth under the American Colonization Society, noting nearly 10,000 emigrants, a 200,000 Native population, and a 500 mile coast. It urges U.S. support for steamship links, religious revival, and equality, contrasting free and enslaved populations while urging policy action in Congress. It also covers temperance petitions, state politics, and Kossuth’s visit fallout.
